Creating Beauty Out of Disorder and Randomness

Anarchia combines rhythmically unpredictable performances with long samples and multiple playheads for an immersive, texturally intricate experience.
User Interface

Anarchia's clean home screen features sound source menus for each of the two layers, waveform displays as well as A/B balance control, master dynamics and navigation controls.

The settings page houses deep controls for the voice layering, multi-octave setup, envelopes, filters and stereo width - all customisable for each individual layer.

The effects page allows for tweaks to the 5 LFOs, powering a range of voice-specific and global parameters including A/B balance, filters, saturation, EQ attenuation and reverb mix.
CONCEPT
Anarchia is based on long, rhythmically aleatoric performances across a few different categories/articulations.
The articulations are designed to capitalise on a range of different textural qualities - from very soft and minimal (intermitted simple repeated notes in one pitch) via more elaborate (octaves) to detailed, noisy (scratches, buzzing piano, woodwind/brass flutters).
Because the timing of the sampled performances is aleatoric/unpredictable, their textural aspects layer up in a very pleasing, organic way.

Rhythmic unpredictability - key to the Anarchia concept

Choose between 1 and 12 voices per layer
MAKE YOUR OWN ENSEMBLE
The engine allows for up to 12 different playheads per layer, starting at random positions in the performances.
The simultaneous playback of different parts of the samples layered together achieves an immersive quality full of sonic detail and intricate sub-textures. The randomness crosses over a threshold to become pleasing complexity and fullness, and is the basis of lush evolving pads, pulses, evolutions and sound design presets.
The stereo width of the additional voices can be adjusted for each layer separately, allowing for a full stereo field or a narrow perspective, depending on preference.
The overall effect is to create layered, ensemble-like textures with varying density and timing.
DIGGING DEEPER
ANARCHIA plays with the ability of the ear to distinguish separate elements of similar but divergent sonic information. With only a low number of voices per layer (3 for example) and little by way of effects the ear will keep track of the individual sub-layers/voices and place them in separate "containers" of perception. Sometimes this is useful.
Sometimes, however, it may be more interesting or useful to tip the balance of perception but increasing the complexity/number of voices, say up to 9/12 per layer. The resultant 18-24 total voices overwhelm the "chunking" capabilities of our perception, and start to treat all the information coming in for each pitch as unified. The chaotic, aleatoric underpinnings of the individual voices persists, however, leading to a pleasing juxtaposition of clarity/unity and intricate detail.

SOUND SOURCES
The sample recordings stem from sessions with select instruments from four groups: PIANO (Upright), GUITARS (Vi Bass, Lap Steel), WOODWIND (Irish Flute) and BRASS (Trumpet).
Together they cover an array of timbral qualities - for example hammered, plucked, scraped or brushed strings (PIANO, GUITARS) or tongue flutters (TRUMPET, FLUTES).
The timbral characteristics complement each other and can be used for contrast (e.g. airy blown FLUTE articulations combined with PIANO plucks) or blending (e.g. staccatos in FLUTES and TRUMPET)

BONUS FEATURE
There are two types of sound sources available - simple and combined. Using the random multiple playhead function, the combined sources allow for even more complexity by stringing together two sound source types.

NKS/KONTAKT
Anarchia is fully supported for NKS. Harnessing the power of Native Instruments’ Komplete Kontrol keyboards, you have full hands-on control of the instrument, using the built-in display and parameter controls on the keyboard. This makes Industry accessible to blind and visually impaired musicians.
Anarchia is compatible with the free Kontakt Player, with activation through Native Access, i.e. you can use the library without purchasing any additional software. You can download Kontakt Player from the Native Instruments website.
